An Ethical Journey
Amidst different perspectives, the path is clear. There is a strong commitment amongst all to live ethically in accordance to the silas (virtues or morality) of right speech, right action and right livelihood. The Dhammapada puts it simply -“Do no evil, Do good, Purify the mind; This is the teaching of all Buddhas.”
It’s seems straightforward and easy, but so often I catch myself thinking in ways that may not be wholesome; speaking impatiently or responding in an untimely manner. The guide to perfection of ethical living hence provides the much-needed discipline for me to train the mind to be free of the fires of greed, aversion and delusion. And with these teachings, I find myself more confident to navigate this spiritual path, for many more years to come.
“Real generosity towards the future lies in giving all to the present.”
~ Albert Camus
